With the lighter evenings now with us and the sap rising it’s uplifting to think of all those lovely sunny days ahead of us – unless you’re a hayfever sufferer!
If you’re anything like my husband the onset of lighter, sunnier days brings with it a sense of dread! (The hayfever season is upon us!) Streaming eyes, running nose, itchy throat and sneezing, these are just a few of the symptoms that are experienced by those sensitive to pollen from different trees, shrubs and bushes. For some their hayfever is short as their sensitivity is to possibly only one type of pollen, for others it can be the start of months of suffering.
Using homeopathic remedies can help to alleviate the symptoms. Below are some of the remedies that can be used to do so. It can be trial and error at first though, you may have to try one or two until you find the remedy that matches your symptoms the best. Some can be bought at chemists, others from a homeopathic pharmacy and I’m here to help aswell.
Allium Cepa (Red Onion:) Watery discharge from the nose, can drip, leaving nose sore and raw. Violent sneezing. Watery eyes. Better in the open air. Worse in a warm room.
Arsenicum Album: Burning, watery discharge from the nose and eyes, with tickling building up to a sneeze. Better for heat, motion, company. Worse in open air, around midnight. Anxious and restless.
Euphrasia: Eyes inflamed with profuse watering which seems to burn. Nose streaming and frequent sneezing. Can be a thick discharge from eyes. Better in the open air.
Nux Vomica: Eyes, nose and face very irritated and hot. Sneezing fits. Eyes light-sensitive. Itching extends to throat and upper chest. Irritated, impatient and snappy.
Lachesis: Sore nostrils and lips. Red, puffy face. Headache and dry, stuffed sensation through the head. The throat can be sensitive, especially to pressure. Sneezing fits, worse after sleep.
As mentioned earlier, there are different remedies for hay fever symptoms that may need to be taken on a daily basis. In addition to treating the symptoms as they arise, it is also possible to have homeopathic treatment from a qualified homeopath that, over a period of time could help with the severity of the symptoms and the frequency of episodes.
